The town of Novafeltria, known as Mercatino Marecchia, was established in 1907 by the union of fractions of the town of Talamello.
Near Novafeltria there is the village of Perticara, an old mining town site of the Historical Mining Museum. The museum is one of the most important and well stocked in Europe, and it documents the secular activity of the extraction of sulfur, with archaeological evidence ranging from the Bronze Age to the Umbrian, Etruscan, and Roman civilizations.
